‘The Birdcage’ Review

‘The Birdcage’ was fine. It was a cute, sweet movie about two gay men with a straight son who wants to marry a conservative senator’s daughter. Nathan Lane and Robin Williams were amazing! I could, and would, watch any movie at any time with the two of them in the cast. For some reason, I thought it was a musical. Maybe I just expect that from Nathan Lane. Or perhaps because it was about two gay men, so I just assumed. Nathan Lane sings but it’s one song but it was only for about a minute. There are some really funny moments, mostly Nathan Lane being a drama queen, emphasis on queen, and Robin Williams trying to calm him down. They are just so hilarious together.

It was sad to see Gene Hackman playing a role. I was not too familiar with his work, but the story surrounding his and his wife’s death is tragic. Christine Baranski is one of my favorite actresses, although my favorite roles for her are ‘Mamma Mia’, ‘The Grinch’, and ‘The Big Bang Theory’. Hank Azaria, the House Boy, was probably my favorite character in this movie. He was so fun to watch.

All in all, it was a cute story about being yourself and letting others do the same. Don’t be ashamed of where you come from. 8/10
