I liked this movie. It was so sweet, but also sad. It is a story of our choices and how those choices shape us—a Butterfly effect, for those of you who are currently into that trend.
The scenery is BEAUTIFUL! The ocean scenes were especially captivating for me. And the music! I can always tell if I’m going to like a movie based on the music. I loved the scene with the Gaelic singer.
I haven’t been a Saoirse Ronan fan before. Not because there is anything wrong with her, I just haven’t seen many of her movies. But she was perfect in this role. The other actor I was happy to see was Jim Broadbent. He seems like one of those actors who has made it so big, he can pick and choose his projects because he is always so perfect in his roles.
The movie definitely makes you nervous when Ellis is making her choice. And it isn’t an absolute black and white choice either. There are arguments for both sides if you remove romantic love from the equation. Or, if you believe that love is just a feeling that can change like the wind. So, there’s the argument. Which is more important? Loyalty to blood? Loyalty to commitments? Loyalty to self? How do you decide? And how do you live with the effects of those decisions? This movie opens the door for a deep discussion. If you’ve seen it, tell me your thoughts. 7/10. I took away a point when the movie made me nervous.
Thank you for being part of this Birthday Movie Month with me. I’m really enjoying it.
