Hey! What are y’all doing July 9th? Because, I was thinking, I could take you along for my CORRECTIVE FOOT SURGERY!!!!! YAY!!! WE DID IT!!! We found a surgeon who was willing to LISTEN and to take me seriously!! I’m so excited!! It is going to be an insane process. They only do one foot at a time because it is so involved. The doctor is basically going to change everything about my foot, except for my toes. Not because they do not need correcting, but apparently hammertoe correction is REALLY hard! And, apparently, if the rest of the foot is corrected, the toes will sort themselves out. So, we’re doing the left foot in July, and then will schedule the right foot later. Probably in January. My left foot will be halfway to totally functional by then, so I feel like that is a good time. Plus, I hate winter, so I really love the idea of a ‘I cannot leave the house’ guarantee!
I do plan to be as functional as possible at home. Jerrad had the NERVE to suggest we get a bedpan, because I won’t be able to bear weight on my left foot for eight weeks. Absolutely not! I refused to do that when I was in the hospital with a DVT. There is no way I’m doing it now! I’ll also be making a lot of freezer meals for Jerrad to pop in the oven while I’m laid up in bed. He suggested we put Chick-fil-a in the budget, but I’m not eating chicken for eight weeks, even if it is God’s chicken. Now, Chipotle, I could eat for eight weeks! So, if anyone has any Chipotle pull, I would be your bestie for life!
I also want to try to be as active as I possibly can be. I’m not sure how long it will be before I can resume physical therapy, but as soon as I am able, I will! I’m told that my options for getting around will be a scooter, crutches, or a walker. I’ve never tried a scooter, but I did well with a walker when my knee was broken. If anyone has advice on how easy scooters are to use, I’ll take it.
I’m just so happy that this is FINALLY happening! It is a huge weight off of my shoulders, and absolutely a step in the right direction.
