Once again, I am late. I think writing has become part of my wind down time. Taking the time to brain dump out into the universe is quite liberating. I’m just waiting for some ugly troll to crawl out from under their bitter bridge and ruin it.
I promised you that today was going to be an adventure, and it was! It started with a 5am workout, because apparently (in our marriage anyway) torture is the same as saying ‘I love you!’ Normally, I get up at 6am to take Jerrad to work, because we are down to one car, and he has a work truck once he is there. It doesn’t make sense for him to take the car, and then just have it sit there all day. So, I drag my 3/4th’s of the way asleep butt out of bed, and drive him. But a few weeks ago, Jerrad decided he really wanted to take working out seriously. And, being the amazing wife that I am, I asked if it would help him if we worked out together two days a week. My mistake because he said ‘Yes!’. Thankfully, we only do the 5am workout one day a week. The other, we do in the afternoon, usually Wednesdays.
As part of my Birthday Month celebration, every Saturday I am treating myself to coffee and a breakfast item at a coffee shop on the way home from drop off. Holly, our dog (in case you don’t know), is also coming along with me. She actually goes every morning, and pretty much every time we go anywhere. Not only is she a lap dog, she’s also a car dog. When we have gone to this coffee shop in the past, she has growled and barked when we pull up to the window. It has gotten bad enough that I worry she will leap across to the poor person handing me my coffee. Sidenote: if Holly ever comes between me and my coffee, she WILL be rehomed! But she has figured out that this magical person, sitting in this magical window, always has a treat for her! This morning, she was still growling, but it was quieter. It was more of an indication of impatience because she knew what was coming. And then she started drooling! It was hilarious! So, we both got our treats, and made it home.
The next adventure was continuing meal prep! I had to finish the things that I started last night, and then start on my breakfasts for the week. I guess I should tell you what I actually made this weekend. This week, I made myself some homemade granola. I still haven’t tried it yet, but it has homemade apple butter in it (I also made that a few weeks ago), so how bad could it be? For my breakfasts, I made Greek yogurt bowls with granola, apple butter, and chicken sausage. Jerrad found these dairy free frozen doughnuts at the store, so I bagged those up with turkey bacon for a quick grab for him in the mornings. Since he is on the road all day, he doesn’t want to take the time for a meal, so I lay out snacks every night that are ‘road friendly’…jerky, fruit snacks, protein bars…things like that. I’m not sure how healthy it is, but it is what he wants. I made brussel sprouts and ground turkey for my lunches, and then Italian Bean Soup for both of our dinners. It is lima beans in watered down tomato soup. I added chicken and peas to make it a) more filling and b) more colorful. We haven’t tried it yet, but it is loaded with garlic, so I’m not worried.
Today was the opening day of our local farmer’s market! I have been looking forward to this for months! Honestly, it was slightly anticlimactic. Almost every single vendor was either selling jewelry, sourdough bread, or tomatoes. I did find a woman selling t-shirts. Actually, it was a hand towel that said something about coffee that caught my eye and lured me in. I don’t need another hand towel, but I DO need a shirt with a Highland cow that says ‘Moody’ on it! The vendor said she can make any shirt design, so make sure to check out her website (Hope’s Happy Crafts LLC https://hopeshappycrafts.com/ ). I also found some beef jerky at another vendor for Jerrad (Cowgirl Beef https://cowgirlbeef.com/ ). I haven’t tried it yet, but the ingredients look really good and simple, not like the stuff we get at Walmart. All of the vendors were so nice! I’m so excited to support local businesses this month!
By this point, it was only 9:30am, but to tell you about the rest of my day would take another hour, and I just don’t have it in me tonight. So, I’ll give you the highlight reel…
