The Oks of Eleven Months!
Woah! Eleven months! Who’d a thunk??? I am SO proud of not just getting through, but thriving in the last eleven months! I have worked so hard for everything that I have accomplished, and there is nothing that I would change! I’m not even sure I’d change the situation with my knee! So, just to play quick catch up, let’s review the last eleven months.
June 2020: Packed up my car with whatever I could fit, and moved to OKC, OK. Started working at the Amazon Fulfillment Center, with hopes of teaching in the fall.
July 2020: Continued working at Amazon, and slowly started exploring and trying to meet people.
August 2020: Quit Amazon, and started vigorously looking for a teaching or subbing position.
September: Completed training for various school districts to sub.
October 2020: Started subbing in Edmond, OK and working at the Edmond Public Library
November 2020: Hired full time as a teacher’s aide for the pre-k special education room in Edmond.
December 2020: Left job at the library due to physical, mental, and emotional exhaustion at school.
January 2021: Met Jerrad.
February 2021: Broke my knee.
March 2021: Laid in bed with a broken knee.
April 2021: Started physical therapy and went back to work.
May 2021: BIRTHDAY MONTH!!!!!!!
Now that everyone is caught up…
Work: Work is currently very boring. I am on light duty because of the brace. I’m not able to be in the classroom with my students. It is very difficult to be in the building, and to not be allowed to do what I love.
Church: I now attend Victory Family Church in Norman, OK. It doesn’t feel like home yet, but hopefully once I’m out of the brace, I can change that. It is an Assemblies of God church, but they are more modernized. I don’t have to wear a long skirt on Sundays, and I’m allowed to continue dyeing my hair purple. It is not a church that I would choose for myself, simply because of how large it is. It’s so easy to feel like a small fish in a very large pond. But I love going with Jerrad and getting to worship with him every week.
Knee: My knee is getting better. I see small amounts of progress every day. The plan is to be out of the brace May 17th, and I think that will be able to happen. Physical therapy has been the most helpful thing to me. It has definitely given me something to focus on. I have a very nice scar that I cannot wait to show off to people!
Life in General: Life in general is good. I’m excited about summer being here! May 28th cannot get here soon enough! And then I’ll have a whole summer off! Jerrad and I will be going to Ohio for vacation with my family in June, and I will be going back by myself later in the summer. I’m looking forward to time with my family, time to sleep in, and time to just be. Yes, I did have several months at home. But it’s not a vacation when your leg is stuck inside a metal cage. So, I’m looking forward to getting some REAL time off!
Even though it has definitely had its ups and downs, Oklahoma has been very good to me. I am so glad I trusted my instincts and took this chance. I am so glad I didn’t listen to everyone who said it wouldn’t work. I’ve worked hard to get to where I am, and I have no regrets. I am very OK with my OK life!
